Ultra Litho chooses KBA Rapida to link to HIFLEX MIS and Prinergy PDF-Version:als PDF öffnen / Pressestimmenmehr Info
Ultra Litho, the largest privately owned sheetfed printer in South Africa, has bought a new RAPIDA 105 Universal from the KBA stand in Hall 16 (B45 + C45). This new 6-colour plus coating press will be connected via JDF links to the company’s HIFLEX MIS installed in January this year, bringing it a big step closer towards a fully integrated workflow. The company already has JDF connectivity between its Creo prepress and HIFLEX MIS via Creo’s Synapse Link and is anticipating the benefits of working in a complete end-to-end NGP environment.
If you analyse a week’s mistakes, the amount of lost production time caused by human communication errors can be significant,’ says prepress operations manager, Barry Hasleham. ‘The integration of prepress workflow system with MIS under the NGP Partnership can help eliminate this for us. One example is a feature of the Prinergy workflow management system which lets us record all the reworking we do that is rechargeable. This is tracked in HIFLEX so it can be costed accurately and invoiced.’

Just one day after installation of the HIFLEX MIS, it began to exchange JDF information with Ultra Litho’s prepress system. When the JDF network is extended to the KBA Logotronic Professional system on the new and existing presses, the exchange of JDF and JMF data will deliver shorter make-readies, increased production time and reduced errors.

Press status will be reported to the MIS during the production run. Real-time information, including speed and saleable sheet count, will be displayed on the HIFLEX monitor where it will be at the fingertips of the scheduler and administration personnel.

Specialising in the production of magazines, marketing literature and financial reports, Ultra Litho has 170 employees based at one site in Johannesburg. Ultra Litho Director Victor Sweet describes how the company is planning on moving forward in the future: ‘We have always had a policy of keeping up with new technologies and are looking into the possibility of including digital printing in our portfolio. If we do, that must also be integrated with our MIS and with our current NGP Partners’ products, we are confident that we will be able to do that.’

The company is already the proud owner of the first 12-unit plus drying B1 press in the world with coating before perfecting.
