The current series of JDF Explained Webinars has now finished. If you are interested in future sessions please let us know. Drop us a line at: JDFExplained@hiflex.com.

The JDF Explained series comprises five internet-based webinars that will explain the benefits of JDF and show practical, real-world examples of its usage. After the initial introduction, the webinar will show cutting-edge JDF integration with MIS systems: JDF to the Desktop, Prepress, Press and Postpress. The series culminates with an indispensable guide to buying JDF products.
Who Should Attend?
The webinars are applicable to anyone who wants a better understanding of the JDF standard with an emphasis on practical applications. They are a must for anyone planning to upgrade or replace their Management Information System (MIS) or prepress system. Attendees will be able to see what's possible today and find out what questions they should be asking their prospective supplier before making any significant investments in JDF technology.

About JDF
The Job Definition Format (JDF) is a vitally important job-ticketing standard for the Graphic Arts industry. It is the key to networking both the production and business systems in plants (from the creative desktop through to final delivery and billing). In an industry where production runs are getting shorter and customer loyalty is needed more than ever to remain profitable, JDF is the much needed the key (but not a silver bullet) to productivity and profitability improvements. In short, no printer should make any capital investment without considering the benefits JDF will bring, and ensuring that new products support JDF today, or are guaranteed to be compatible with JDF in the future.

Schedule
Introduction to JDF - Tuesday, June 13th at 1PM EDT / re-run: Tuesday, July 18th at 1PM EDT
This first webinar in the series explains what JDF is, and how it will impact the printing business. We will also take a brief look at the organization of CIP4 (JDF's governing body), how the standard is developed, and how printers can become involved in driving the standard forward. Some of the myths about JDF will be dispelled and some hard facts presented. The basic technical features of the standard will be explained, which will allow attendees to understand its application and implications. The Job Messaging Format (JMF) will also be introduced. We will also briefly present some ROI studies. Subsequent webinars will build on the topics presented here.
Product Intent and Acrobat 7 - Tuesday, July 11th at 1PM EDT
With the advent of Acrobat 7 and new generations of popular desktop applications, printers will want to, or will be required to, start consuming JDF files from creative users and sending job specifications upstream in JDF. Those who embrace this new technology will improve customer loyalty and their efficiency. In this webinar attendees will gain a thorough understanding of the concept of the "Product Intent" and "Process Intent". A live demonstration of the printer-print buyer workflow using Acrobat 7 will be given.
JDF in Prepress - Tuesday, August 8th at 1PM EDT
As far as production is concerned, prepress is arguably the department that will be most impacted by JDF. In this webinar, the major parts of the JDF standard that apply to prepress (such as StrippingParams) will be presented. Attendees will see how JDF can dramatically improve automation, increase visibility, and improve accountability in prepress. Connectivity between MIS and Preps, Prinergy and ApogeeX will be demonstrated.
JDF to Press and Postpress - Wednesday, September 6th at 1PM EDT
In this webinar, attendees will see how JDF will impact the press room and bindery. Find out how make-ready times can be improved: a critical efficiency given the industry's trends towards shorter run-lengths. Important changes in working practices that are required to ensure accurate job costing and status reporting will also be discussed. Live connectivity from MIS to press and post press will be shown with MAN Roland's Pecom, Komori's K-Station, Muller Martini's System Manager (for saddle stitchers) and MBO's Data Navigator (for folders).
Buying JDF-enabled Products - Tuesday, October 3rd at 1PM EDT
This webinar is the indispensable guide to buying JDF-enabled products and systems. JDF is a complex standard and, today, lacks any kind of conformance testing. Many would-be implementers are unaware of what to look for beyond a "JDF Compatible" sticker when buying products and it's not unheard of for purchasers to end up with two JDF-enabled products that do not communicate. Throughout the series of webinars, we will touch on some of the caveats to avoid when purchasing JDF-enabled products. In this webinar, we will give some concrete guidelines for buying and implementing JDF-enabled products and how to get an idea of their real purchase and ownership costs.
