The close and successful co-operation between Hiflex and Komori was established with the worldwide first real-life JDF-connectivity MIS / Komori printing.
More real-life
projects followed further proving the efficiency of the JDF-link between the two systems. JDF-integration between Hiflex / Komori has repeatedly been awarded with the CIP4
(CIPPI) Innovation Awards. |
|
The status quo of JDF-connectivity between Hiflex and Komori is regularly shown in the Komori democenter in Utrecht (Netherlands), Chicago (USA) and Leeds (Great Britain)
as well as in the Hiflex CIM Center (Aachen). |
|
The JDF enabled production management system of Komori is called K-Station. The JDF files generated by Hiflex are forwarded to the presses through this software solution
which also continuously feeds back messages on production status to Hiflex via JMF. |
The planning of the job sequence in Hiflex Scheduling application provides the basis for the JDF data transfer to the printing presses. An exact description of the
production sequence is generated during preliminary calculations and initial job costing. Last minute modifications are captured in Hiflex Estimate and are automatically
available for pre-set data that is sent to Komori K-Station via the JDF interface.
As soon as the job is ready to print, Komori K-Station's control system receives job information (e.g. customer name, job number, product description) and relevant printing
parameters (format, paper, run length, number of plates and inks) via JDF from the Hiflex MIS. Feedback from production (progress on the job (in percent), good sheets and
waste, speed, and status of the machine) automatically flows back into Hiflex Scheduling and Hiflex SFDC (Shop Floor Data Collection) and constantly updates the MIS.
JMF feedback as received from Komori K-Station is, for instance, displayed in real-time in the digital planning board of Hiflex Scheduling, so that the scheduler
and the CSR are always up-to-date about the current status of the job. This provides essential transparency in order to manage production with highest flexibility
and efficiency. Moreover, it provides an exact data pool for job costing analysis (cost finding and historic costing). |

Norwegian offset printer implements HIFLEX MIS and JDF between five different vendors' systems and realizes ROI of 1847% . PDC Tangen from Oslo is the first Scandinavian
printer that implemented JDF connectivity. Starting early in 2006, they to date have realized most convincing results of process automation implementation which earned them
the 2007 CIPPI Award in the category "Best cost/benefit realization as a result of process automation implementation". The case story of PDC Tangen revealed impressive
benefits of the JDF implementation: an increase in the turnover by 20% (+ EUR 5.2 Mio / NOK 40,6 / USD 7,17), a productivity increase of 25% on the presses and 15% on the
folding machines. The profit after taxes was improved by almost 900%. Calculated on a five year period, the competitive advantage due to process automation amounts to
EUR 5.180.906 / NOK 40,490,404 / USD 7,131,880 and the investment pays itself back 20 times. The CIP4 Award places the offset printer from the North amongst the world-wide
most successful users of process automation technology.

Belgium offset printer successful in the 2006 CIPPI Awards. End of 2002 Patrick Tanghe, CEO of Tanghe Printing NV, decided to start a CIM project
(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) for his company. The goal was to integrate all organisational and technical IT functions that are related to the
production processes in one central IT system (the HIFLEX MIS). In order to automate processes this system should make joint usage of all data relevant
to production. Since the go-ahead four years ago Tanghe Printing NV has increased its total turnover by 45 percent (2006: EUR 4.8 Mio.) while simultaneously
reducing the workforce of around 35 to 23 people.

The Belgium printing company Tanghe Printing NV has converted to networked production. In January the company
started with the MIS system HIFLEX and only two months later, in March, the JDF connectivity to their Komori
presses went online. The effects are time and cost savings through single data entry points, more transparency on
production status and an increased productivity on the press.
