The partnership between Agfa and Hiflex is based on close and successful co-operation on international exhibitions, road shows and further events. It was strengthened by
the success in the international CIP4 Innovation Awards. |
|
A further expression of our partnership is the presentation of the JDF-link between Agfa and Hiflex in the demo centers in Mortsel (Belgium) and Ridgefield Park (USA).
Vice a versa, the efficiency of the JDF link between the Hiflex MIS and Agfa :ApogeeX is regularly presented in live demos at the Hiflex CIM Center in Aachen (Germany). |
|
Agfa und Hiflex also co-operate in the integration of Agfa's web-based project management system :Delano. More detailed information about the bidirectional JDF-link
between the two systems is available below. |
|
The JDF-link between Hiflex MIS and Agfa :ApogeeX ensures the efficient bi-directional data transfer between the two systems. |
|
For automatic job creation :ApogeeX receives administrative (order number, order description, customer name and address, contact person, etc.) and technical data
(job parts such as cover/content, production plan, number of pages, inks, etc.) sent by the Hiflex MIS via JDF. The job in the prepress system and the job in Hiflex
are permanently connected. This ensures bidirectional real-time communication for the complete order management process. |
While Hiflex is calculating the most efficient production way it simultaneously creates the digital imposition sheet. The according JDF StrippingParams are transferred
to the prepress system when the job is automatically created via JDF. In :ApogeeX the StrippingParams are without any intermediate step processed to generate the
imposition scheme, whereas the Agfa extension "AutoStripp" enables :ApogeeX to interpret the JDF StrippingParams and then automatically build up the imposition scheme.
:ApogeeX's imposition engine automatically adds colour bars, control strips, trim marks, fold marks, registration marks, signature collation marks, signature name and ID.
The compensation for bottling and creep is also carried out.
Moreover, Hiflex is able to determine the process chain (workflow plan) in :ApogeeX via JDF. Based on colors, paper qualities and printing methods provided by Hiflex
Estimate specific prepress parameters are automatically set in :ApogeeX. In this context the Agfa extension "AutoStripp" enables the prepress workflow system to
interpret (by so called "NamedFeatures") further data such as colors, gradation, screen ruling etc. that was received from Hiflex via JDF.
:ApogeeX is able to receive a job update via JDF. If, for instance, the number of pages is modified after the order was placed, this is first updated in the Hiflex production estimate.
This ensures that project pricing, production schedule, imposition sheet and electronic job ticket are all up to date. Hiflex then forwards order amendments like these to
:ApogeeX via JDF, where the corresponding job is automatically updated. In doing so, the imposition scheme is replaced with the updated one even when the pages have already
been assigned.
As soon as plate exposition is initiated Hiflex receives a JMF for cost booking. At the same time, the PPF color profiles that were produced in the Agfa system are transferred
to Hiflex Scheduling where they are used for a preview of the printing sheet. Hiflex, moreover, modifies the PPF (CIP3) data from :ApogeeX into JDF (CIP4) data so that the
connected printing presses receive all preset-data from one source (Hiflex) - instead of partly from :ApogeeX and partly from Hiflex MIS. (Patent-registered procedure)
This method was awarded with the CIP4 Innovation Award.

Belgium offset printer successful in the 2006 CIPPI Awards. End of 2002 Patrick Tanghe, CEO of Tanghe Printing NV, decided to start a CIM project
(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) for his company. The goal was to integrate all organisational and technical IT functions that are related to the
production processes in one central IT system (the HIFLEX MIS). In order to automate processes this system should make joint usage of all data relevant
to production. Since the go-ahead four years ago Tanghe Printing NV has increased its total turnover by 45 percent (2006: EUR 4.8 Mio.) while simultaneously
reducing the workforce of around 35 to 23 people.

Companies See Demand Grow for Technological Integration of JDF-Based Inter and Enterprise Solutions
Ridgefield Park, NJ – October 1, 2003 – Agfa today announced that it is showing at Graph Expo in Chicago, Illinois how the :Delano Production system,
a customer-focused project management tool for commercial printers, can exchange job, customer and user information with Hiflex, a provider
of business and MIS solutions. The companies’ cooperation enables :Delano customers to import JDF metadata, which describes job definitions,
customer and user information from the Hiflex MIS system, further expanding connectivity and solutions for the Graphic Enterprise. :Delano
customers can use this metadata to speed up the production cycle, and manage and automate their downstream processes, dramatically eliminating
any re-keying and the chance of human error.
