Adobe and Hiflex co-operate in the area of JDF-technology. If an end customer uses Adobe Acrobat (Professional 7) they can be included into automated order processing via JDF.
The link was realized in 2006 and the positive effects of it were awarded with the CIP4 Innovation Award (CIPPI Award 2006). |
|
The JDF-link between Hiflex MIS and Adobe Acrobat is demonstrated live in the Hiflex CIM center. |
|
When customers use Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, the JDF file generated by Hiflex can be sent to the customer contact person via email. When they open the e-mail and click
on the attachment where Acrobat will be launched and the JDF file can be processed. Files ending with ".jdf" are automatically assigned to this application. The PDF content
files may be attached to the JDF job parts (e.g. cover and text), checked before data transmission and finally, the job can be submitted to the printer. |

The process in detail: With job creation in Hiflex MIS the customer receives the order confirmation via E-Mail incl. JDF attachment. The customer can open the JDF job specifications
in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, where the job is displayed in a tree structure. Hiflex transfers general job data for each product part (e.g. content and cover) via JDF. |
|
|
|
The customer can assign the separate PDF content files directly to the job parts and become part of the displayed structure even before upload. Before data transmission important
preflight checks are conducted:
The Preflight profile configured by the printing house has been imported into Adobe and is integrated into Adobe's "Submission Manager" (together with further options). |
As erroneous content files are noticed, the automated checks before data transmission save additional correction cycles and ambiguities are avoided. With file delivery production
can directly start, as the data is preflight checked and ready for imposition.

CIP4 awards Köller+Nowak for "Biggest Improvement in Efficiency and Customer Responsiveness". Full-service printing house Köller+Nowak of
"Drupa-City" Düsseldorf had already set a course for automation years ago. In the early stages of their journey, Köller+Nowak has seen that automation
does't just begin when a job is created in the system but much earlier: it begins with the customer's operations. With the implementation of the HIFLEX
eBusiness module in August 2002, Köller+Nowak integrated their customers transparently and efficiently into order processing which provided tangible
benefits for the printing house and eventually has also significantly strengthened customer relationships.

The future compatibility of printers largely depends on the quality of the MIS used.
When choosing a Management Information System (MIS), a printing company is usually making a five to six year commitment and should therefore consider
the opportunities that networked production offers. As in the MIS-system technical data and process relevant data are available (through estimate and production control),
the MIS functions as the JDF-controller for the data exchange between the individual departments and systems of a printing company.
